What are your hours?
We are open from 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. As we are a “year round” program, we enroll at any time of the year, depending upon space availability. You can check our website for our Holiday Schedule, as we follow most San Mateo School District major holidays.
How old do children have to be to attend your program?
We are licensed for ages 2 to 6, however, most children start between the ages of 2-1/2 – 3, due to the potty training requirement. Most children transition on to Kindergarten when they are five (5) years old.
Do children need to be fully potty trained?
Yes – our children must come to school in regular underwear (no diapers or pull-ups). We will assist with reminding the newly potty trained children to use the toilet, to wipe, to flush, to pull up pants, etc., but the child must have a ‘sense’ of using the toilet (not having the teacher placing the child on the toilet, for example).
Are immunizations required for enrollment?
Yes – a "Physician’s Report” (form) completed by your child's physician is one of the requirements for enrollment. This form lists the child’s immunization record. Parents are required to update their child's immunizations, as required.
Are meals provided?
Yes – we provide a morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack. We strive to provide healthy meals daily, including fresh fruits and vegetables.
Is there a nap time?
Yes – our “Nap/Quiet Time” starts around 1:00PM through about 2:30PM – we definitely want all of the children up and about by 2:30PM on a daily basis. We always have “soft music” or a story cassette on during this resting period.
What is your program’s teaching style?
Our model of teaching is called “High Scope”. This philosophy believes in actively involving children in the learning process. On a daily basis, we create engaging and hands-on activities which children can independently choose. We have thoughtfully presented materials available throughout the school.
How do you handle discipline?
Environmental planning is key to making sure that our children have enough materials and space to engage in. Additionally, we encourage a lot of positive praising with our children. If, after talking with the child, the child continues some negative behavior, we will re-direct the child to another activity. We do not enforce any type of corporal punishment nor “time outs” because we believe in talking and explaining things to our children until they fully understand.
What is the enrollment process?
Once it is decided that this is the right program for the child, the “Application for Enrollment” form must be submitted with the Registration Fee to secure placement. The "Application for Enrollment" form can be found and downloaded at the bottom of our "Enroll Your Child" page.
What is the next step for enrolling my child?
Once we have established an actual start date, we will be in touch regarding what to bring on the first day, such as Petite Sorbonne Preschool's list of required forms (which are available in the Application Packet page), a complete change of clothes, bedding for Nap/Quiet Time, etc. Then, we happily await your child’s arrival in joining the PSP family!
Masks - Our children must be able to wear a mask, including removing and putting back on as needed (such as during outside play, meals, and nap time).
Shoes - We are a "shoes off" facility; socks or slippers must be worn indoors at all times (NO bare feet!). We recommend your children to have easy slip on shoes that they are able to take on/off on their own.
Water Bottles - Please bring a reusable water bottle/thermos for your child. We will refill it with filtered water, as needed, throughout the day.
Individual Containers - Each child will have his or her own individual container for their own supplies (i.e. markers, pencils, crayons, scissors, little toys to play with, etc.).
Sanitation Supplies - We would appreciate any and all donations of sanitation supplies, which include disinfectant spray (Lysol), hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial wipes, latex gloves (size M), and disposable masks.
