Planting in the PSP Garden has begun!! The children have been weeding, planting, watering, and more (like exploring bugs!!)!!! First up - strawberries!!! Then, tomatoes (given by one of our nice PSP families), beans, lettuce, and zucchini!!! Gardening is a wonderful activity to do with children ... they are totally involved in the whole process ... it's hands-on ... and, fun!!!

Have a wonderful Spring Break! Happy Easter!
School is C-L-O-S-E-D Friday, March 25th and throughout the following week. School resumes on Monday, April 4th! :O) Love, Teacher June Another wonderful conference! Teacher June, Teacher Vanessa, and Teacher Midori attended this event, learning more tips on how to engage children through stories - with senses, music, play, and more! The Raising A Reader program is a national nonprofit organization that improves reading readiness skills for children. Their goal is to educate families and children with the power of books, with an emphasis of family involvement during the process. We love using the Raising A Reader program at PSP!! That naughty Leprechaun got us AGAIN! His mischievous ways turned our whole school yard into a mess! Tires on the play structure, tables and chairs flipped over, and so many toys everywhere!! And he left so many little green footprints! Did I mention our delicious lunch turning green?! Luckily for us, he didn't find a way into the school! Oh well... at least he left us all some gold and treasures! :O)
Pictures to come... Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!!!! :O) Love, Teacher June Happy (early) Valentine's Day to all!
We spent all week prepping our beautiful Valentine Boxes! They turned out so beautifully! We love being resourceful, and our milk cartons are sure put to good use! Covered in paper, painted, and decorated by each child! So many lovely goodies from all of our wonderful families! -Teacher June and Teacher Vanessa Today after Circle Time, one of our children said that she had a dream about Teacher Minh. It was a shock to us all! She said that Teacher Minh was all better! He was out of the hospital and was sitting the back room of the preschool, and had a big band-aid on his tummy! Teacher June was stunned and started to cry, but was so glad that she got to see Teacher Minh again. This child then gave Teacher June a big hug while saying, "It's okay, Teacher June," and then went on about how much she missed Teacher Minh.
She's not the only one. Still even today, some of our children draw pictures for Teacher Minh. They always ask how we can safely send their pictures to him. Or even ask when he's going to come back. It's been a little over two months now since Teacher Minh passed, and yet we can see how much of his presence really affected our children. For me, I think about my dad every day. Wondering how different my life would be if he was still here. Missing all of the wonderful food he cooked for us at dinner. Being able to ask him about global endeavors. Or even just listening to his advice or his opinions on day to day things. This moment felt like a life lesson. It's important to teach your children the value of empathy and learning how to care for things other than themselves. Being able to understand someone else's thoughts and feelings. In any case, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who misses my dad. -Teacher Midori What's DRDP? It stands for Desired Results Developmental Profile. It is designed by the California Department of Education Early Education and Support Division Results system to improve the quality of programs and services to all children who are currently in an educational program. Check out more of their information here.
Teacher June, Teacher Vanessa, and Teacher Midori attended an all day training about observation. These types of trainings help teachers enhance their skills. With that said, now we have more tools to be even better teachers for all of our children! One of the skills that we learned, that even parents can use at home, is asking Open-Ended Questions! When your child has drawn a masterpiece or built a castle of blocks, instead of praising them for their great and creative work, ask Open-Ended Questions to enhance the thinking and conversation! Some Open-Ended Questions examples:

A big thanks to our special guest, Mr. Santa Claus, for visiting all of us here at PSP! We're so lucky to have so many great children and wonderful families to enjoy the holidays with! Our Holiday Tea was another success this year! We enjoyed so many goodies and great snacks. Our first Thanksgiving was extremely difficult without our beloved Teacher Minh, and I can't imagine that Christmas will be any easier. Be grateful for the love that you share with your families and loved ones this holiday. Thank you to all who brought so many goodies for the Holiday Tea! School resumes on January 4th, 2016! -Teacher June, Teacher Vanessa, & Teacher Midori It is with a very sad and heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Teacher Minh. Earlier in this month, Teacher Minh had underwent his last and final surgery. His surgery was successful and the doctors were pleased to report that he was cancer free, and ready to go home from the hospital. On the day he was to be released, Teacher Minh unexpectedly passed away in the early hours of November 13, 2015.
Minh is survived by his wife, Teacher June, and his two daughters, Masako and Midori. The love and support that Teacher Minh's family has received has been overwhelming. We cannot thank all of our wonderful families enough for stepping in during this difficult time. We are forever grateful to each and every one of you. We will be announcing service information at a later time. Always in Our Hearts! We love you, Teacher Minh! Happy Halloween! Here we have a chef, a cat, and an angel! :O)
