Today after Circle Time, one of our children said that she had a dream about Teacher Minh. It was a shock to us all! She said that Teacher Minh was all better! He was out of the hospital and was sitting the back room of the preschool, and had a big band-aid on his tummy! Teacher June was stunned and started to cry, but was so glad that she got to see Teacher Minh again. This child then gave Teacher June a big hug while saying, "It's okay, Teacher June," and then went on about how much she missed Teacher Minh.
She's not the only one. Still even today, some of our children draw pictures for Teacher Minh. They always ask how we can safely send their pictures to him. Or even ask when he's going to come back. It's been a little over two months now since Teacher Minh passed, and yet we can see how much of his presence really affected our children.
For me, I think about my dad every day. Wondering how different my life would be if he was still here. Missing all of the wonderful food he cooked for us at dinner. Being able to ask him about global endeavors. Or even just listening to his advice or his opinions on day to day things.
This moment felt like a life lesson. It's important to teach your children the value of empathy and learning how to care for things other than themselves. Being able to understand someone else's thoughts and feelings.
In any case, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who misses my dad.
